How does the new San Jose plastic bag ban affect me as a seller?
The Bring Your Own Bag Ordinance is currently effective since January
1 of this year. For sellers the new law states: “You are unable to
provide free single-use carryout plastic bags to customers at check
out. You may sell reusable bags or 40 percent post-consumer recycled
content paper bags. Post-consumer recycled content paper bags must be
sold for a minimum price of 10 cents each, and the sale must be
itemized separately on the sales receipt.” For more information

If you are not on the Registration List or Waiting List posted on this web site, you will not be able to participate in the 2012 Swap Meet.

You cannot change your registration after submission, unless it is to cancel one or both days.

This event is geared towards Occasional Sellers in Santa Clara County. Occasional Sellers are persons who have cleared their households of their own personal USED items and sell only those items. In addition, occasional sellers are persons who will be selling their own personal used items no more than twice in the State of California within a twelve month period. If you aren’t sure if you qualify, additional Seller’s Permit information, including the locations where individuals may obtain them, can be found at the California State Board of Equalization web site.

Rules & Guidelines

You will not be able to participate if you do not agree to and follow these rules and guidelines.

Official stores and dealers, as well as their employees, are prohibited from selling at the Swap Meet.

Individuals with FanimeCon Industry, Guest, Press, and Dealer badges are prohibited from selling at the Swap Meet.

A Swap Meet space costs $20.00.  Please note we only accept cash payments for your space.

You must be 18 years or older to sell at the FanimeCon 2012 Swap Meet. You may only register for one space per day, and a maximum of two people may share a space. You will only be able to sell items at your assigned space.

You cannot have someone else register an additional space for you.

A maximum of two spaces may be registered per household or extended family group.

You or your partner must be present in your assigned space the entire duration of the Swap Meet, or until you have decided to close up for the evening. If both sellers have left a registered space, we will consider the space closed and you will not be allowed to return that evening.

Minor children (under 18 years of age), who are under the parental supervision or guardianship of the sellers, may enter the seller’s assigned space. Minors, however, are not allowed to sell goods at the Swap Meet.

Each participant is required to complete the application form, and we will need a separate form for both Thursday and Friday if you decide to sell on both days. (Coming Soon)

A maximum of 1 Long Box (L 27.25 x W 7.5 x H 10.8) of Adult Material is permitted, and it must be covered with a lid and clearly marked indicating the contents.  The seller must verify government-issued IDs of all customers to ensure they are 18 years of age or older before they are allowed to look at adult materials. The sale of Adult goods to Minors is prohibited.

You must have all items with you when you check in, and you will not be permitted to bring in additional goods after you have been escorted to your space at the Swap Meet.

Shelving, clothing racks, tables, and anything which might block or obscure the view of other vendors, buyers, security, or staff, is strictly prohibited.

Taping or pinning items to the wall is strictly prohibited.

Unlicensed, bootleg, or counterfeit goods are prohibited (e.g. SM, Everanime, Aliors, Elfin, fansubs, etc.).

Art commissions and the sale of personally created items at Swap Meet are prohibited (limited quantities of doujinshi and cosplay items excepted).

Swap Meet staff has the final say on all goods permitted, and all items will be searched by Swap Meet staff before they are allowed into the Swap Meet.

The sale of all real weapons and explosives are prohibited. This includes all projectile weapons (such as airsoft or bb/pellet guns, bows, crossbows, and firearms), live steel, metal/wooden baseball bats, metal kunai, incendiary devices, lasers, laser pointers, paddles, whips, floggers, brass knuckles, butterfly knives, concealed blades, throwing stars, tonfa, saps, clubs, nunchaku, sai, tessen, jitte, and metal or glass props. Additionally, any prop weapons which are suitably realistic enough that they could be mistaken for a real weapon are also prohibited.

Anyone caught breaking the rules or causing problems for the staff, attendees, or other Swap Meet participants will be removed from the Swap Meet.

Any questions regarding the interpretation of the rules above are subject to discretion of FanimeCon Swap Meet staff.

Convention Check-in

Sellers please line up no earlier than 6:00pm (Thursday, May 24, 2012) or 5:00pm (Friday, May 25, 2012) in the marked space matching your number range in The Fairmont San Jose Regency Ballroom. Do not line up before the stated times; we start processing the line at exactly these times. The line will be set up “airline style”. There will be pieces of paper on the floor indicating sections, for example 1 – 20, 21 – 40, 41 – 50, etc. If your number is “19″ you will stand in the “1-20″ area. If you are not sure, ask one of the Swap Meet staff who will be assisting.

Pre-Registration or a current FanimeCon badge is REQUIRED for all sellers. We strongly suggest pre-registering for the convention if you plan to participate. Bring your pre-registration receipt or badge with you.

Your Swap Meet Registration Number is *extremely* important. Please note your number for both days. You will need your Registration Number when you check in. There will also be lists posted outside of The Fairmont San Jose Regency Ballroom on Thursday and Friday with your Registration Number.

You will be assigned a 5 feet wide x 10 feet deep space when you check in, you will not be able to choose a space. Early registration numbers will generally receive the best spaces, so if you register early you have a better chance to get a space closer to the entrance or exit.

Sellers will have 2 hours to be processed by Swap Meet staff and to set up on each day before the general public is let in to the Swap Meet. You will have one hour, from 11:00pm – 12:00pm, to move your items from the hotel after the Swap Meet closes.

We start processing registrations at The Fairmont San Jose Regency Ballroom for the Registration List, and once all of those have been processed we will start with the Waiting List line. Due to cancellations, no-shows, and space evaluations it is likely that some people on the Waiting List will make it in.

When you check in, you will be given a registration sticker. The sticker will have your Name, your Space Number, and your Registration Number. We will be visiting assigned spaces to verify that people sitting in a space have valid registration stickers.
